Child Support Unit
The Child Support Program in the State of Missouri is administered by the Department of Social Services - Family Support Division (DSS-FSD). Missouri has enacted laws that allow the Family Support Division to collect child support through wage withholdings, garnishments, unemployment and tax intercepts, and liens without having to file a collection action through court.
Child Support services through the DSS-FSD are available without cost to all Missouri residents and are provided automatically to custodial parents who receive Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) payments for dependent children.
DSS-FSD is the agency that initially handles all cases. If they cannot adequately resolve the issue, they refer the case to the appropriate prosecuting attorney's office. Generally, the Child Support Unit of the prosecutor's office only handles cases that are referred to it by DSS-FSD.
The responsibilities of the Boone County Prosecutor's Office Child Support Unit include:
- Establishing paternity
- Initiating child and medical support orders
- Monitoring and enforcing compliance with these orders
