Potential Flooding Anticipated in Boone County, Missouri

August 1, 2023 –The Boone County Office of Emergency Management (BCOEM) has been in contact with the St. Louis National Weather Service (NWS) in reference to the potential flooding of all Boone County creeks and streams.  The NWS is forecasting six plus inches of rain for Boone County on Tuesday evening between 11pm and Wednesday morning.  Due to the rainfall prediction, there is a good potential for all the Boone County creeks and streams to reach flood stage levels during the next 24 hours.   These conditions could cause flood waters to threaten roadways, structures, parks, and trails inside of Boone County.

Our office would like to remind our residents and visitors of Boone County about the following tips to stay safe during flooding and to be aware of the potential changing conditions that are forecasted.

  • Our office would like to remind our residents and visitors of Boone County about the following tips to stay safe during flooding and to be aware of the potential changing conditions that are forecasted.

    • Evacuate immediately, if told to evacuate.  Never drive around barricades.  Local responders use them to safely direct traffic out of flooded areas.
    • Listen to the Emergency Alert System, NOAA Weather Radio or local alerting systems for current emergency information and instructions.
    • Do not walk, swim, or drive through flood waters.  Turn Around.  Don’t Drown!
    • Stay off bridges over fast-moving water.  Fast moving water can wash bridges away without warning.
    • Stay inside your vehicle if it is trapped in rapidly moving water.  Get on the roof if water begins rising inside of the car.
    • Get to the highest level if trapped in a building.  Only get on the roof if necessary and once there, signal for help.  Do not climb into a closed attic to avoid getting trapped by rising flood waters.
