Boone County Bicentennial Mural Unveiling to be Celebrated Thursday, March 12, 2020
March 9, 2020—The unveiling of the Boone County Bicentennial Mural, “Treasures of Boone County,” will be celebrated on Thursday, March 12, 2020 at the Boone County History and Culture Center. The public is invited to attend this special celebration, which will run from 4:00PM until 6:00PM, with a ribbon cutting by the Chamber Ambassadors of the Columbia Chamber of Commerce.
Boone County will celebrate its Bicentennial in 2020 and individuals and organizations from across the county have been hard at work to create a memorable experience for all citizens of Boone County. Local artist/educator Stacy Self, artist of WildysWorld! Mural Makers Studio, joined together with members of each Boone County community to design and paint a large mural in the shape of Boone County that depicts 200 years of Boone County history. The mural is divided into pieces, each representing distinct geographic sections of the County. Meetings were held throughout the county to learn what is important and unique about each community, directly from the members of that community. After the designs were developed, events took place throughout the County to which community members were encouraged to attend and participate in the painting of that community’s mural piece.
With all mural pieces completed and reunited, “Treasures of Boone County” will be on display during 2020 in the Boone County History & Culture Center. At the close of the Bicentennial Year, the pieces will be given to the communities that created them, where they will be displayed for posterity.
