Boone County Recorder Cautions Citizens About Notices Following Home Purchase
COLUMBIA, Mo. (February 3, 2025) - Boone County Recorder of Deeds Bob Nolte is cautioning citizens about a concerning trend involving mailed solicitations titled "Recorded Deed Notice." These notices, while designed to appear official, are not affiliated with Boone County Government and attempt to mislead recipients into paying over $120 for publicly available information.
The companies responsible for these solicitations offer copies of recorded documents with a report of other information about the property, charging a premium price for documents that can generally be obtained from the Recorder of Deeds' office for $1 per page.
"These solicitations prey on unsuspecting homeowners and provide little to no additional value. I urge all Boone County residents to contact my office directly if copies are needed," said Nolte.
Copies of recorded documents can be purchased directly from the Recorder of Deeds' office by visiting http://www.showmeboone.com/recorder/online-services or by calling 573-886-4345.
The Recorder of Deeds' office also encourages property owners to sign up for Deed Watch, a free notification service. Once registered, residents and business owners can receive email notifications if any document is recorded using their name. Sign up today at DeedWatch.BooneMO.org.
"A home is often the most substantial investment a person will have," emphasized Nolte. "I encourage all property owners to protect their valuable assets by registering for free Deed Watch notifications."
