Boone County GIS Manager Jason Warzinik Wins Award for GIS Coordination
April 21, 2016
Boone County GIS Manager Jason Warzinik will be receiving the 2016 MAGIC (MidAmerica GIS Consortium) Award for GIS Coordination next week at the MAGIC Symposium in Overland Park, KS. Warzinik has been the GIS Manager for Boone County for nearly 13 years.
MAGIC has been around for over 20 years and focuses on establishing linkages between GIS users having similar application interests; facilitating communication and data sharing across levels of government and between government, industry and academia; promoting spatial data standards and land records modernization; and promoting collaboration and advancement of geospatial technologies. To support their goals they sponsor training events and a three day biennial GIS symposium at which they give ou awards in three areas: GIS Service, GIS Coordination, and GIS Innovation.
Warzinik was nominated for this award based on many factors. He is involved in numerous GIS organizations and committees, including Missouri Geographic Information Systems Advisory Council (MGISAC), National Geospatial Advisory Committee (NGAC), & Region F GIS Group. In 2014/2015, he took a leadership role in the Fly MidMO Consortium for imagery and LiDAR acquisition. Because of Warzinik's leadership, seven counties, including the City of Columbia and MU, were able to acquire imagery at a much reduced cost. He was able to obtain cost-sharing agreements with several entities such as utilities, USGS, State of Missouri & Department of Conservation. He also created compressed county-wide mosaics for all of the participating partners and for use in local emergency management.
