Holiday Travelers Urged to Drive with Caution
May 22, 2015
Whether it's a long road trip, or just a quick drive across town, Boone County Joint Communications encourages those behind the wheel this holiday weekend to travel with caution.
"With the high volume of traffic expected this weekend, especially on Friday afternoon and Monday afternoon, we ask motorists to be careful," said Joint Communications Director Scott Shelton. "In addition, if you are in a motor vehicle collision, or witness one, do not hesitate to contact 9-1-1."
Shelton offers tips for those hitting the road this weekend:
- Buckle up.
- Don't drink and drive.
- Don't speed.
- Pay attention and avoid distractions.
- Obey traffic rules and signs.
- Plan your trip. Determine your route before you leave.
- Get plenty of rest before your trip.
- Be patient and courteous.
Shelton also reminds everyone to stay updated on the latest weather information through the weekend and call 9-1-1, in the event of a threat to life or property during weekend activities. For non-emergency incidents, residents are reminded to call the non-emergency number for Joint Communications at (573) 442-6131.
