Boone County Departments Earn Two National Awards

July 11, 2014

In the span of one month, four Boone County departments have been recognized for their innovative ideas and combined effort through two different national awards. In June, Boone County received a 2014 Achievement Award by the National Association of Counties for the collaborative efforts of the GIS, Public Works and Resource Management Departments in developing the Field Assessment Management and Operations System program. On July 10, The Center for Digital Government and the National Association of Counties announced that Boone County also received a top-ten ranking in the 2014 Digital Counties Survey, which recognizes leading examples of counties using technology to improve services and boost efficiencies.

The 2014 Achievement Award recognizes the combined efforts of Boone County's GIS, Public Works and Resource Management Departments to open communication with citizens and between departments. Through the Field Asset Management & Operations System (FAMOS) program, the level of certainty and validity of current data in the field has improved, new data has been collected, and new, dynamic ways to illustrate daily operations have been implemented. By using expertise from each department and sharing data within one system, Boone County's FAMOS program provides decision makers a comprehensive amount of data on the county assets to make informed management decisions.

The 2014 Digital Counties Survey recognizes leading examples of counties using technology to improve services and boost efficiencies. Eight of the past nine years, Boone County has been ranked in the top ten among counties nationwide with populations between 150,000 and 249,999. Boone County's innovations in technology provide efficient, streamlined approaches to previously cumbersome processes, which increases effectiveness while decreasing cost. Commissioner Karen M. Miller will accept the award on behalf of Boone County at the 2014 Digital Counties Survey Awards Reception on July 11, 2014 during the NACo Annual Conference and Exposition.

The Boone County Commission will be recognizing the excellence of the departments during the Commission meeting on Tuesday, July 22 at 9:30AM in the Boone County Commission Chambers.
