Public Invited to Meeting Regarding Boone's Lick Road Historic Area
April 30, 2014
The Boone County Board of Parks, in cooperation with the Boone's Lick Road Association, will hold a public meeting to discuss a Boone's Lick Road Historic Area north of Midway. The meeting will be held on Sunday, May 4 at 2:00PM in the Midway Locust Grove Methodist Church.
The public meeting will specifically address a portion of the historic road gifted to the County of Boone by the Sanders and Powell families in 2001. The tract is a 200-foot wide strip running .6 miles just west of the end of Goodson Drive, accessed via an easement running north from Graham Road. The meeting will serve as a forum for interested parties to discuss the future of this area and the best ways to preserve it. David Sapp, preservationist and current president of the Boone's Lick Road Association, anticipates presenting recommendations to the County's advisory groups and, ultimately, to the County Commission regarding the best ways to preserve this property. By holding a public meeting, he hopes to gather the input of the public, specifically nearby landowners, the Midway Historical Society and other members of the Boone's Lick Road Association, to consider in his recommendations.
The Boone's Lick Road stretches across what is now St. Charles, Warren, Montgomery, Callaway and Boone Counties. Sapp says he believes "this historic area should be preserved so that its unique character and history is known to future generations. It also has the potential to be a major asset to the neighborhood."
