Boone County Children's Services Board Seeking Community Input and Applicants for Board Position Openings

The Boone County Children's Services Board seeks targeted information from the perspective of local providers whose services and programming align with Missouri Statutes 67 & 210. On February 27, 2014 the Board hosted the first of five community input sessions. Each meeting in the series of input sessions will be held at 4:30PM in the Boone County Commission Chambers in the Boone County Government Center at 801 E. Walnut, Columbia. These sessions, as detailed below, will allow the Board to grasp the collective perspective of service providers around specific service/topic areas. The final session, a general input forum, will be held on April 24, 2014 and is open to the community-at-large.

The Board is also seeking qualified applicants for three upcoming vacancies. Especially encouraged to apply are individuals with experience in or related to the following areas: the provision or advocacy for mental health services; healthcare administration; administrative experience with governmental or social service agencies; personal former eligibility for services or guardian of individual formerly eligible for services; legal experience; and accounting/finance. Section 210.861, Revised Statutes of Missouri, prohibits membership on the board by certain persons, including current County Commissioners, those having any financial interest in any agency receiving funds from the Children's Services Fund and those employed by any agency receiving funds.

The board meets the second and fourth Thursdays of each month from 4:30PM-6:00PM in the Boone County Commission Chambers. Additional information is available on the Boone County website at https://report.boonecountymo.org/mrcjava/servlet/CM01_MP.I00040s.

The Boone County Children's Services Board is in place following voter approval on November 6, 2012. The Board, in partnership with the Boone County Commission, is charged with the improvement of Boone County through the provision of services to protect the well-being and safety of children nineteen years of age and under and their families. The Board is dedicated to the provision of services through the responsible and transparent allocation of funds received as a result of the Boone County Children's Services ¼ cent county-wide sales tax, which is estimated at approximately $6.5 million dollars annually. Funding may be expensed to purchase the following services for children age 0-19 and their families within Boone County:

• Up to thirty (30) days of temporary shelter for abused, neglected, runaway, homeless or emotionally disturbed youth
• Community-based family intervention programs
• Respite care services
• Crisis intervention services (inclusive of telephone hotlines)
• Services to unwed mothers and unmarried parent services
• Prevention programs which promote healthy lifestyles among children and youth and strengthen families
• Outpatient chemical dependency and psychiatric treatment programs
• Professional counseling and therapy services for individuals, groups, or families
• Counseling and related services as a part of transitional living programs
• Psychological evaluations
• Home-based family intervention programs
• Mental health screenings
