Boone County Public Works Offers Reminder for Snow Preparation
December 5, 2013
As the weather forecasters predict our first possibility for winter weather this season, Boone County Public Works would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of a few guidelines that will make the occurrence safer and easier for both residents and road crews.
Our goal is to efficiently have all county roads passable within a reasonable amount of time after the snow has stopped. With between ½ inch and 2 inches predicted for this event you might see trucks out pre-treating before the snow begins and then not see them again until the snow fall is over. This allows us to maximize our resources, both product and employees. Our plowing priorities reflect a commitment to ensuring that priority roads are kept open to serve critical facilities and provide access between state highways and our communities.
- During snow and ice conditions, emergency calls from law enforcement and/or fire department are considered first priority. If you are experiencing an emergency, please contact Joint Communications (911) and they will call Public Works if necessary.
- Please do not shovel the snow from your driveway onto the road.
- Please shovel your driveway in the same direction as traffic.
- Avoid parking in the roadway as this may delay snow removal for that road.
- If you live in a rural, drift-prone area, please mark your mailbox to assist the road maintenance crews in avoiding them.
- Limit travel to only necessary trips and, if you must go out, be sure to have a light, a blanket, food and water with you in case of an emergency.
Boone County Public Works thanks you for assisting us as we serve you.
