Boone County Commission Accepting Applications for Boone County Children's Services Board

January 18, 2013

Applications to serve on the Boone County Children's Services Board are now being accepted by the Boone County Commission.

The Boone County Children's Services Fund was established through the passing of a one-fourth cent sales tax increase in the November 2012 election. To ensure these funds are used to provide services that protect the safety and well-being of Boone County children and their families, a Board will be appointed by the Boone County Commission. Ultimately, the goal of the Board is to maximize positive outcomes in a transparent, accountable fashion in recognition that the taxpayers of Boone County are both important stakeholders and beneficiaries of this program. Initial members will be tasked with the development of the Board itself, including the development of by-laws and a code of ethics, as well as the establishment of basic program policies and procedures. These include but are not limited to such aspects as creating procurement processes for professional services, establishing criteria for types of services to be purchased, identifying fund-matching opportunities and determining eligibility standards and criteria.

The ideal Boone County Children's Services Board will consist of community members that represent the diversity of age, race, gender and experience in Boone County. Specifically, applicants should possess experience in one of the following areas: mental health, healthcare administration, governmental and/or social service agency administrative experience, legal, or finance/accounting. Individuals formerly eligible to receive service or guardians of individuals formerly eligible to receive service are being sought to fill Board positions as well.

The responsibilities of this Board are to both the taxpayers of Boone County and the vulnerable population it is designed to serve. Therefore, the integrity of the Board and its members is of utmost importance. Applicants are asked to disclose any conflicts of interests that they may have. The disclosure of possible conflicts of interest does not always disqualify applicants, nor does it imply a presumption of impropriety. Instead, it recognizes the impact that various aspects of life have on decision making, as well as the importance of honesty among fellow participants.

Interested individuals are encouraged to submit an application to the Boone County Commission Office for consideration. Applications will be accepted until 5:00PM on Thursday, February 28, 2013 and can be obtained from the Boone County Commission Office at 801 E. Walnut, Room 333 or can be found online at https://report.boonecountymo.org/mrcjava/servlet/CM01_MP.I00040s. For more information, please call the Boone County Commission Office at (573) 886-4305.
