Things you may have missed...

Drug Court Honored

On Wednesday, the Boone County Drug Court Team was recognized as a Mentor Adult Drug Treatment Court by the National Drug Court Institute. Carolyn Hardin, Senior Director of the National Drug Court Institute, presented the team with the award during a ceremony at the Boone County Courthouse. Flu Shots Available

The Columbia/Boone County Department of Public Health and Human Services will host flu clinics on:

  • Monday, Sept. 27 from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m.
  • Tuesday, Sept. 28 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The clinics will be held at the health department, located at 1005 West Worley in Columbia. Health department nurses will also offer flu vaccine to children at Boone County elementary schools beginning in October.

The Health Department will offer flu vaccine (nasal spray and the shot) FREE of charge to any child age 18 or younger. Flu vaccine is also FREE to all Medicaid and Medicare clients. Others 19 years of age and older will be charged $25. Cash, check or credit cards will be accepted for payment. Receipts can be given if requested. Pneumonia vaccine is also available.

County Kicks Off United Way Champaign:

Boone County Government will sponsor a pie contest and auction, raffle and silent online auction, as part of the 2010 Boone County Employee United Way Campaign, Sept. 29 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. in the Courthouse Square (801 E. Walnut, Columbia, Mo.). The goal of the campaign is to raise $15,000 for the Heart of Missouri United Way. Boone County Prosecuting Attorney Dan Knight will serve as the campaign coordinator. Battle of the Badges: Boone County, Columbia and University of Missouri public safety organizations will compete in the Boone County Battle for Blood Tuesday, Sept. 28 from noon to 6 p.m. at the Activity and Recreation Center (1701 W. Deadline for Stormwater PSA Contest

The last day to submit an entry for the Hinkson Creek Watershed Restoration Project's Stormwater Public Service Announcement (PSA) Video Contest is Oct. 12.

The contest challenges filmmakers residing or attending school within Boone County to produce short, creative videos that highlight stormwater or water pollution issues.

All films should be 30 seconds or less, and multiple entries are allowed. There are two categories being offered; under 18 and 18 and over. Awards will be given to the top two videos in each category: First place in each category will receive $500 while second place in each category will receive $250. Winning submissions will be announced in October.
