What are the Human Resources Department office hours?Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (open during the lunch hour)
How can I apply for open jobs?
- Fill out an application (located in the Human Resources office or on this website).
- Resumes may not be substituted for the application.
- Applicants are encouraged to submit a resume in addition to the application.
- Completed applications must be received in the Human Resources office for proper processing.
- Applications are reviewed as they are received.
- Human Resources will notify you if any additional documents are needed.
- Hiring departments will only contact applicants they wish to interview.
What types of positions are available with Boone County?
Full Time Position: Full time employees are budgeted for 2080 work hours per year annually in each budget year.
Part Time Position: Part time employees are budgeted for less than 2080 work hours per year annually in each budget year.
Temporary: Temporary employees are hired as interim replacements, to temporarily supplement the work force, or to assist in completion of a specific project. Temporary employees receive legally mandated benefits, such as workers' compensation insurance and Social Security, but are ineligible for the County's other benefits.

When and where are typing tests given?
Our typing test is given Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. on a walk-in basis or between 1:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. by appointment, except for State holidays. Our office is located at:601 E. Walnut, Johnson Building ( 2nd Floor), Room 211, Columbia, MO 65201.
If I live outside Columbia or Missouri, where do I take the typing test?
Please make arrangements for a typing test at your local Work Force Development Office. We accept valid typing scores from your local Workforce Development office. Find your local Workforce Development Center in Missouri here: http://ded.mo.gov/WFD.aspx
When is my typing test score invalid?
- Typing scores less than the minimum required for the specific position are considered invalid.
- Typing tests taken on the internet or other than at your local Workforce Development Office are considered invalid.
- Typing test scores more than a year old are considered invalid.

How do I obtain a valid class A or B Missouri Peace Officer License?

Am I required to live in Boone County as a Deputy Sheriff?Yes, you are required to live in Boone County as a Deputy Sheriff, however, not for other positions within the Sheriff's Department.
If you have my application on file, why do I have to apply again?Applications are designated for specific positions and need to include your most current information, shift availablility, references, skills and appropriate dates.
