Things you may have missed...

Construction Begins on Thomas Hill Bridge

On Wednesday, construction began on the Thomas Hill Bridge project located one quarter mile west of Tucker School Road. The bridge will be closed until the project is completed. C & C Construction is the contractor on this project. Motorists should seek alternate routes during bridge construction and use caution in all construction/work zones.

County Hosts Blood Drive

On Friday, Boone County hosted its annual spring blood drive in honor of John Patton, former County Counselor. Blood is needed for emergencies and for people who have cancer, blood disorders, sickle cell, anemia and other illnesses. Some people need regular blood transfusions to live. For nearly 5 million people who receive blood transfusions every year, your donation can make the difference between life and death. Tire and E-Waste Collection

An e-waste and tire collection will be held tomorrow, Saturday, May 15, from 9a.m. to 1p.m. in at the city landfill in Centralia. For more information please contact The Mid-Missouri Solid Waste Management District at (573) 874-7574 or visit: http://www.mmswmd.org/.

Work Session on Food Permits

The Boone County Commission will hold a work session on County food establishment permits Monday, May 17, at 2 p.m. at the Roger B. Wilson Government Center, Commission Chambers, 801 E. Walnut, Columbia, Mo. 65201.

Commissioner on KFRU

On Wednesday, Southern Commissioner Karen M. Miller will be on KFRU's Morning Meeting program at 9 a.m. She will discuss the latest County news and talk calls from listeners.

Bid Openings

On Thursday, May 20, the Boone County Commission will open the following bids at the 1:30 p.m. commission meeting:

  • County Government Center Remodel and/ or Boone County Old Johnston Paint building remodel
  • Rollingwood Boulevard asphalt overlay

Planning and Zoning Public Meeting: The Boone County Planning & Zoning Commission meeting will be held Thursday, May 20 at 7 p.m. in the Boone County Commission Chambers.

East Area Plan Public Meeting

The City of Columbia and the Boone County Planning and Zoning Commissions will host a joint meeting regarding the East Area Plan (EAP), formerly called the East Columbia Area Plan (ECAP), on May 25, 2010, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Columbia Benevolent Organization’s Meeting Hall located inside the Elk’s Lodge, 4747 Elk Park Drive East (east of Cedar Grove Elementary School off State Route WW).

There are plenty of opportunities for Boone County citizens to get their voice heard and learn more about what their government is doing. The County Commission hears public comments every Tuesday (9:30 a.m.) and Thursday (1:30 p.m.) during Commission meetings at the Roger B. Wilson Government Center, Commission Chambers, 801 E. Walnut, Columbia, Mo. 65201. Commission 3-C work sessions are also open to the public.
