The Maintenance and Operations Division is responsible for the upkeep and repair of 786 miles of roads and the associated right-of-ways as well as bridge and other drainage structures in Boone County. Routine and preventative maintenance includes applying gravel to rural roads, asphalt and concrete patching and sealing, roadside ditching, vegetation control, and bridge maintenance and repair. Traffic services provided include street signing, regulatory signing, and snow and ice control.
The Design and Construction Division is responsible for initiating, monitoring, and completing capital improvement projects related to Boone Countys transportation network. The projects include, but are not limited to, those authorized by the one-half cent sales tax package that was approved by voters in 1993 (Proposition I) and renewed for an additional 10 years in 1998 (Proposition II). This Division conducts and coordinates the inspection and acceptance of subdivision streets as well as provides technical assistance to other County offices. This Division provides technical support services to the Boone County Regional Sewer District pursuant to a contractual arrangement. The Division also administers the Neighborhood Improvement District (NID) program.
Boone County is dedicated to protecting water quality in our natural streams and waterways. Stormwater Outreach and Education focuses on building support from local residents and businesses in preserving water quality and the environment. As stormwater runoff flows through a watershed, it picks up pollutants that may cause serious damage to a stream ecosystem. Many of these pollutants can be safely removed with good stormwater management practices. Boone County is working to provide you with the latest information on water quality, encourage you to use our online tools in your own backyard, and to introduce you to other resources available to you, your neighborhood, and community.
